Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a program which helps people with low income pay the cost of heating their home.
An eligible person may receive on HEAP benefit per program year. However, if someone is in danger of running out of fuel or having the utilities shut off, the person could also be eligible for one Emergency HEAP benefit.
HEAP may be able to help you if you heat your home with the following:
- Electricity
- Natural Gas
- Oil
- Coal
- Propane
- Wood/Wood Pellets
- Kerosene
- Corn
Eligibility and benefits are based on a couple of variables including income, household size, primary heating source and if a member of the household is over the age of 60, under the age of 6, or permanently disabled.
HEAP started accepting applications for the 2019-2020 year on November 12th, 2019. The program will remain open until it runs out of money.
