Independent Living Skills (ILS) Training is a consumer-driven service that supports individuals with disabilities in developing the skills necessary to live as independently as possible in the community, based on their self-identified goals and preferences.
Independent Living Skills Training provides individualized and group-based instruction designed to enhance a consumer’s ability to manage daily life and participate fully in the community. Training is tailored to each individual and may include:
- Daily living skills (cooking, cleaning, personal organization)
- Financial literacy (budgeting, bill payment, benefits management)
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Use of assistive technology and adaptive equipment
- Transportation training (public transit navigation, travel safety)
- Health and wellness management
- Time management and goal setting
All training is consumer-directed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive, emphasizing skill-building that promotes autonomy, confidence, and long-term independence.
