Living Well in the Community – NEW
At the Capital District Center for Independence, we offer a program called Living Well in the Community, a 10-week, peer-led workshop designed to help people with disabilities and older adults improve their quality of life and strengthen their independence.
The workshop focuses on practical skills that help people live healthier and more connected lives in their communities. Participants work on goal setting, building strong support systems, improving communication skills, eating well, and learning how to advocate for themselves in healthcare and everyday situations.
Throughout the program, we also explore topics like goal setting, building supports, healthy eating, physical activity, managing stress, and developing positive ways to respond to life’s challenges.
What makes Living Well unique is that it’s peer-led, meaning participants learn alongside others who share similar experiences. This creates a supportive environment where people can share ideas, encourage one another, and build meaningful connections.
By the end of the workshop, participants often feel more confident managing their health, more connected to their community, and better equipped to live independently.
At CDCI, programs like Living Well in the Community help people gain the tools and confidence they need to truly live well in their communities.
